Liège Belgium 🇧🇪
In late July we spent three days in a mid sized Belgian city of Liège. We were there in the midst of the European summer heatwave where the temperatures were 38-40 degrees! Very unusual for that time of year. The apartment we rented was on the top floor and had no air con (not unusual). We were used to these temps from Thailand but over there we always just flicked on the aircon to get relief. Here though most shops and restaurants don't have air conditioning, so it was hard to find relief. With the long days, the sun doesn't go down until 10pm, so our top floor apartment (oven) didn't cool down at all until early morning. We slept under wet towels as a way of keeping the temp down. Despite the heat hardship we found Liège to be a beautiful city with cobblestone streets and plenty of laneways and scenic parts to explore. We tried the delicious Liège waffles which are more crispy than the softer Brussels version. Lots of French spoken in the streets and on signs, so Zara was able to try out her Year 7 French skills buying croissants and the like.
